  • Excellent UV Protection – Effectively absorbs and reflects UV-A and UV-B.

  • Antibacterial & Deodorizing – Natural antibacterial, antifungal, and deodorizing properties.

  • Good Thermal Conductivity – Suitable for thick rubber parts requiring heat dissipation.

  • Multiple Grades – Rubber, coating, ceramic, cosmetic, personal care, feed, electronic, and activated grades.

Advantages

  • High purity & low impurities – stable and consistent final product quality

  • Excellent vulcanization activity – higher crosslink density, more complete vulcanization

  • Improved rubber adhesion – strong bonding to steel wire and cord fabric

  • Good dynamic properties – low deformation, low heat build-up, wear and aging resistance

  • Wide application range – meets GB/T 3185-2016

  • Activated grade – high surface area (~100 m²/g), higher efficiency, lower dosage

  • Surface treatment available – silicone or silane for better dispersion

  • Stable supply & fast delivery – reliable capacity and multiple loading ports

Applications

  • Rubber Industry (50–60%) – Vulcanization activator for tires; improves wear resistance, heat conduction, aging resistance, and adhesion to steel wire and cord fabric; enhances strength and gloss in latex products.

  • Coatings & Paints – White pigment providing hiding power and tinting strength; offers UV/IR shielding, mildew resistance, durability, and weather resistance.

  • Ceramics & Glass – Glaze flux improving elasticity and gloss; nano ZnO lowers sintering temperature by 40–60°C and provides hygiene function (claims subject to local regulations); used in optical and special glass.

  • Cosmetics & Personal Care – Mineral UV filter with broad-spectrum UV-A/UV-B protection; used in skincare, baby care, and blemish-prone skin products; suitable for sensitive skin formulations.

  • Personal Care & Skin Care Raw Materials – Skin-protective ingredient for external skin care formulations; high-purity cosmetic and skin care grades available.

  • Feed & Animal Nutrition – Zinc trace mineral additive supporting animal health and growth.

  • Electronics & Others – Used in ferrite, varistors, phosphors, electronic components, and as a chemical intermediate for zinc compounds.

Technology

  • Indirect / French Process: Zinc metal is vaporized at about 1000°C and oxidized with hot air to produce high-purity ZnO (99.5%–99.7%).
  • Direct / American Process: Zinc ore is reduced and vaporized at 1000–1200°C, then oxidized and cooled to collect ZnO.
  • Wet Process: Zinc salt solution reacts with alkali to form basic zinc carbonate or zinc hydroxide, followed by filtration, drying, and calcination to produce activated zinc oxide.
  • Nano Technology: Controlled synthesis produces nano ZnO (30–200 nm) with high surface area and high activity.
  • Surface Treatment: Silicone or silane coating improves dispersion and compatibility in organic or aqueous systems.
  • Quality Control: ICP-AES for heavy metals, BET for surface area, and strict in-process inspection ensure batch-to-batch consistency.

Theory

  • Rubber Vulcanization Activation: ZnO reacts with stearic acid to form zinc stearate, which then reacts with accelerators to form active zinc-accelerator complexes, reducing activation energy and accelerating vulcanization.
  • UV Protection: ZnO is a wide-bandgap semiconductor (approx. 3.37 eV) that absorbs UV radiation and converts it into minor heat, while also reflecting and scattering UV rays.
  • Antibacterial Action: Under light, nano ZnO generates electron-hole pairs and reactive oxygen species (ROS) that damage bacterial cell membranes.
  • Ceramic Fluxing: ZnO reacts with other glaze components to form low-melting eutectics, reducing sintering temperature and improving glaze gloss and elasticity.

Production Process

  • Indirect / French Process
Zinc ingot / zinc dross → crushing → smelting at ~1000°C to form zinc vapor → oxidation with hot air → cooling → collection of ZnO powder.
    Purity: 99.5%–99.7%.
Main Use: Rubber, cosmetics, personal care, and high-end applications.
  • Direct / American Process
Zinc ore → purification to zinc ash → mixing with coal and lime → reduction in furnace at 1000–1200°C → zinc vapor → oxidation and cooling → collection of ZnO.
    Purity: Generally below 99.7%.
Main Use: Industrial grade, ceramics, coatings.
  • Wet Process
Zinc raw material + ammonia / sulfuric acid → zinc complex or zinc sulfate → purification → precipitation of basic zinc carbonate / zinc hydroxide → filtration, washing, drying, calcination → activated ZnO.
Main Use: Activated zinc oxide, rubber, feed, agriculture.

Operation Method

  • Rubber: Add ZnO during mixing or milling with stearic acid and accelerators. Typical dosage: 3–5 phr. Activated ZnO may reduce dosage.
  • Coatings / Inks: Slowly add ZnO powder into the base material under stirring. Use dispersing agents if needed. Typical dosage: 5–15% by weight.

  • Cosmetics: Disperse in oil or water phase before adding to the formula. For nano ZnO, prepare a pre-dispersion slurry first. Typical dosage: 2–20% depending on SPF and product type.

  • Ceramics: Mix and grind with other glaze components. Typical dosage: 2–10% in glaze formulations.

  • Feed: Introduce through trace mineral premix according to local nutritional standards.

  • General Handling: Avoid dust generation; keep area well ventilated. Wash hands thoroughly after use.
