  • Fine & Uniform Particle: Delivers superior dispersion and consistent reaction kinetics.
  • Low Impurity Profile: Heavy metals including Pb, Cd, As and Fe are rigorously controlled.
  • Excellent Chemical Stability: Remains stable at ambient temperature and pressure; insoluble in water and alcohols.
  • Broad-Spectrum UV Shielding: Absorbs and reflects both UVA and UVB rays efficiently.
  • Antibacterial & Deodorizing Performance: Possesses inherent antibacterial, antifungal and deodorizing capabilities.
  • High Thermal Conductivity: Ideal for thick rubber components that demand heat dissipation.
  • Wide Range of Grades: Rubber, coating, ceramic, cosmetic, personal care, feed, electronic and activated zinc oxide grades available.

Advantages

  • High Purity & Low Impurities: Boosts end-product stability and minimizes adverse impacts on finished goods.
  • Superior Vulcanization Activity: Functions as a rubber vulcanization activator to raise crosslink density and achieve thorough vulcanization.
  • Enhanced Rubber Adhesion: Strengthens bonding between rubber and reinforcing substrates such as steel wire and cord fabric.
  • Outstanding Dynamic Mechanical Performance: Features low deformation, low heat build-up, great wear resistance and exceptional anti-aging properties.
  • Broad Application Scope: Complies with or surpasses GB/T 3185-2016. Widely applied in rubber, ceramics, glass, personal care materials, electronics, animal feed and chemical intermediates.
  • Activated Grade Option: High specific surface area (~100 m²/g) delivers higher activation efficiency and lowers required dosage.
  • Custom Surface Treatment: Silicone or silane surface modification is available to improve dispersion in organic and aqueous matrices.
  • Stable Supply & Prompt Delivery: Consistent production capacity together with multiple loading ports guarantees dependable shipment.

Applications

  • Rubber Industry (50–60% of total consumption): Acts as a vulcanization activator in tire manufacturing. It enhances wear resistance, thermal conductivity and anti-aging performance, while improving adhesion between rubber and steel wire / cord fabric. It also increases mechanical strength and surface gloss for latex goods.
  • Coatings & Paints: Functions as a white pigment with excellent hiding power and tinting strength. It delivers UV & IR shielding, anti-mildew properties, long-term durability and superior weather resistance.
  • Ceramics & Glass: Serves as a glaze flux to elevate elasticity and gloss. Nano zinc oxide reduces sintering temperature by 40–60°C and imparts antibacterial features. It is widely adopted in optical glass and special glass products.
  • Cosmetics & Personal Care: A broad-spectrum mineral sunscreen blocking both UVA and UVB. Applied in skincare, diaper rash ointments and anti-acne formulations, ideal for sensitive skin.
  • Personal Care & Skin Raw Materials: A skin-protective raw material for ointments and topical skincare preparations. High-purity cosmetic-grade zinc oxide is available.
  • Feed & Animal Nutrition: Trace zinc supplement to sustain animal health and promote growth.
  • Electronics & Other Fields: Utilized in ferrites, varistors, phosphors and electronic components; also acts as a chemical intermediate for synthesizing zinc derivatives.

Technology

  • Indirect / French Process: Metallic zinc is vaporized at approximately 1000°C and oxidized by hot air, yielding high-purity zinc oxide with a purity range of 99.5%–99.7%.
  • Direct / American Process: Zinc ore undergoes reduction and vaporization at 1000–1200°C. The generated zinc vapor is then oxidized and cooled to recover ZnO powder.
  • Wet Process: Zinc salt solution reacts with alkali to precipitate basic zinc carbonate or zinc hydroxide. Subsequent filtration, drying and calcination produce activated zinc oxide.
  • Nano Technology: Controlled synthesis enables nano ZnO (30–200 nm) production, featuring large specific surface area and superior reactivity.
  • Surface Treatment: Silicone or silane coating can be applied to enhance powder dispersion and compatibility within organic or aqueous matrices.
  • Quality Control: Heavy metal testing via ICP-AES, specific surface area measurement by BET, together with rigorous in-line process inspections guarantee consistent quality across batches.

Theory

  • Rubber Vulcanization Activation: ZnO reacts with stearic acid to produce zinc stearate. The resulting zinc stearate further interacts with vulcanization accelerators to form active zinc-accelerator complexes. This lowers activation energy and speeds up the vulcanization reaction.
  • UV Protection: Zinc oxide is a wide-bandgap semiconductor (~3.37 eV). It absorbs UV radiation and converts it into minor heat energy, alongside reflecting and scattering ultraviolet rays.
  • Photocatalytic Activity: When exposed to light, nano-ZnO creates electron‑hole pairs and reactive oxygen species (ROS). These active substances can degrade organic contaminants and damage microbial cell structures.
  • Ceramic Fluxing: ZnO reacts with other glaze ingredients to form low‑melting eutectic mixtures. It cuts sintering temperature and enhances the gloss and elasticity of glaze layers.

Production Process

  • Indirect / French Process: Zinc ingots or zinc dross are crushed, then smelted at around 1,000°C to produce zinc vapor. The vapor is oxidized by hot air, followed by cooling and collection to obtain ZnO powder. Purity: 99.5%–99.7%. Main applications: Rubber, cosmetics, personal care and other high-end sectors.
  • Direct / American Process: Zinc ore is purified into zinc ash, mixed with coal and lime, and reduced inside a furnace at 1,000–1,200°C to form zinc vapor. Subsequent oxidation and cooling yield zinc oxide powder. Purity: Typically less than 99.7%. Main applications: General industrial uses, ceramics and coatings.
  • Wet Process: Zinc feedstock reacts with ammonia or sulfuric acid to form zinc complexes or zinc sulfate. After purification, basic zinc carbonate or zinc hydroxide is precipitated. The precipitate undergoes filtration, washing, drying and calcination to produce activated ZnO. Main applications: Activated zinc oxide for rubber, feed and agricultural uses.

Operation Method

  • Rubber: Add ZnO in the mixing or milling stage together with stearic acid and vulcanization accelerators. Typical dosage: 3–5 phr. Activated zinc oxide can lower the required addition amount.
  • Coatings & Inks: Slowly introduce ZnO powder into base materials under continuous stirring. Dispersants may be added when necessary. Typical dosage: 5–15 wt%.
  • Cosmetics: Disperse ZnO into the oil phase or aqueous phase prior to incorporation into the formula. For nano-ZnO, prepare a pre-dispersed slurry in advance.
  • Typical dosage: 2–20%, adjusted according to target SPF and product category.
  • Ceramics: Blend and mill ZnO alongside other glaze raw materials. Typical dosage within glaze systems: 2–10%.
  • Feed: Incorporate via trace mineral premixes and comply with local nutritional regulations.
  • General Handling Guidelines: Avoid dust formation and maintain adequate workplace ventilation. Wash hands thoroughly after handling.
